Wild animals in Assam food crisis in flood situation

Country News

Aaj Khabor (English), Morigaon, Assam, 29/07/2020 : Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Assam. Wild animals are coming out of the forest in the hope of saving lives and some  food. In this situation, a pair of rhinos were seen coming out of the  Pabitara forest of Assam today and roaming in the nearby locality.

Most of the sanctuaries in Assam are inundated by floods every year. And the wild animals of the forest come out of the forest in search of shelter. This year alone, 132 wild animals have died in Kaziranga Forest. Most parts of the Kazirangaya Sanctuary are submerged.

The floods in Assam have so far affected a total of 56,01,708 people in 5,304 villages, of which 103 have died so far. The waters of the Brahmaputra are rushing into the Kaziranga Sanctuary. National Highway 37 is now open to small vehicles only. A few days ago, a mother rhinoceros was seen wandering with her cubs near Mayung and Morigaon settlements near the sanctuary.

They were wandering in crowded places in search of food. There is no food in the forest now, and probably the wild animals may not be able to reach where they are. Moreover, due to the current flood situation in Assam, the forest workers are not able to deliver food to the wild animals. As a result, wild animals are dying without getting food.
