US Won’t Allow Iran to Impose Tolls on Strait of Hormuz, Says Trump

Trump calls Iran’s proposal “coercive,” stresses the strategic waterway must remain free for global shipping

Aaj Khabor (English), Washington, USA, 11/04/2026 :  US President Donald Trump has made it clear that the United States will not allow Iran to impose tolls on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that the strait is an international waterway and any attempt to levy charges on vessels would be unacceptable.

Iran has recently suggested that it may charge fees or tolls on ships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, potentially collecting payments in its own currency. Reacting strongly, Trump described the move as “coercive” and warned against any unilateral action that could disrupt global trade routes.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical oil transit chokepoints in the world, with nearly one-fifth of global oil supply passing through it. Any disruption or additional cost imposed on shipping could have significant consequences for global energy markets.

Amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, Washington has reiterated its commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters. The US administration has indicated that it is prepared to take necessary steps to prevent any restrictions on maritime movement in the region.

Meanwhile, the situation remains tense, and there are growing concerns that the issue could further escalate geopolitical instability in the Middle East.

CAA Certificate Granted to Refugee Couple in Gazole; MLA Hands Over Citizenship Documents

Mahendra Kumar Singh and his wife Arti Singh, who migrated from Bangladesh in 1993, receive Indian citizenship under CAA.

Aaj Khabor (English), [Politics], Gazole, Malda, 04/03/2026 : A refugee couple from Shankarpur area of Gazole in Malda district has finally received Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). After Habibpur, this is another case from the region where applicants have been granted citizenship through the CAA process.

Mahendra Kumar Singh and his wife Arti Singh had reportedly fled religious persecution in Bangladesh and taken shelter in India in 1993. Despite living in the country for over three decades, they were unable to secure Indian citizenship and did not possess voter identity cards.

About three months ago, the couple applied for citizenship under the CAA. On the occasion of Dol Yatra, local BJP MLA Chinmoy Deb Barman personally visited their residence and handed over the CAA certificate.

Expressing his happiness, Mahendra Kumar Singh said that his home was in the Tangail-Mirzafar area of Bangladesh. “We came to India in 1993. I applied under the CAA three months ago. Today, I have received the certificate. I was living in fear and anxiety for years. Now I am relieved and happy. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have fulfilled what they promised,” he said.

Meanwhile, MLA Chinmoy Deb Barman alleged that the ruling All India Trinamool Congress was misleading refugees for political gains. He stated that all eligible Hindu refugees residing in India would receive CAA certificates and urged applicants not to panic but to apply for citizenship under the Act.

The development has once again brought the implementation of the CAA into the political spotlight in West Bengal.
