Fastag system was introduced across the country from today. The central government has directed this fastag system all over the country.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made it mandatory to implement the fastag system from January 1, 2021. This fast tag system is being made mandatory for all 'M' and 'N' class vehicles sold before December 1, 2016. ‘M’ class vehicles include at least four-wheeled vehicles and those used in passenger transport. ‘N’ class motor vehicles include four-wheeled vehicles but those that transport goods. Even such vehicles carry goods as well as passengers. Therefore, in the case of all these vehicles, it has been decided to make Fastag effective from January 1. In this context, the Ministry has clearly stated that the Central Motor Vehicle Act remains in force as before.

However, the fee for travel to the hybrid lane fee plazas on the national highways can be paid in cash till February 15 through the Fastag system. Also, in the fastag lanes of the fee plazas, the travel charges can be paid only through the fastag system.

According to the ministry, it has been decided to implement 100 percent e-toll collection system in fee plazas from January 1, 2021. This decision is in accordance with the amendment of the Central Motor Vehicle Act.
