A leopard trapped, rescued by the forest department


Aaj Khabor (English), Darjeeling, West Bengal, 04/01/2021 : An adult leopard was trapped in a wire net in the tea garden. Eventually, Forest Department personnel rescued him and took him to the Darjeeling Zoo.

At the Margaret Hope Tea Garden in Darjeeling, locals heard the roar of a leopard and saw a leopard entangled in a wire net in such a way that it could not free itself. Trapped in a wire net, he started trembling. After that the forest department was informed and a team was sent from the forest department to Margaret Hope tea garden.

J Farid Sheikh, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Kurseong Forest Range, said, "We have received news that a leopard was trapped in a wire net at Margaret Tea Garden in Naya Gaon area. Tranquillisation experts and veterinarians started from Sukna range. They went to the spot, tranquilized the leopard at 3.30 pm and released it. The leopard has been taken to Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (Zoo) in Darjeeling for treatment.
